Fox Strategies

Fox

Overall:7

Offence:6 Defence:6 Projectile:10 Final Smash:9

Throwing:7 Recovery:7 Aerial:5 Speed:8

Fox is right in the middle of the three Star Fox characters. He's fast with one of the best projectiles in the game, not to mention the ability to reflect any projectile.

  • Sliding Ability-Medium
  • Weight Class-Lightweight
  • Attack Tier-Lower

Special Moves

Blaster

Fox's standard special rapidly shoots a blaster that doesn't do much damage, but when used properly, can quickly rack up damage on an opponent. It's great because the opponent dosen't move when attacked, making it harder to notice or dodge.

Fox Illusion

The Fox Illusion has less range and slower start time than Falco Phantasam, but it's still a staple of Fox's. Use it to clear out a crowd of high damaged opponents, or to inflict damage from a distance.Use this as a substitute to Fire Fox when you need horizontal recovery instead of Vertical.

Fire Fox

Fire Fox is one recovery move that uses directional input as a means for direction. Press the analog stick in the direction you want to go. This is one of the best in the game because it can be used as a good attack and gets good range in any direction. You can inflict additional damage if you catch your opponent in the inital start-up.

Reflector

Fox's Reflector will reflect any projectile shot at him and even deal out small damage when used up close. Use this heavily when facing any opponent with projectiles, but don't make it oblivious that you're going to use it. On heavy projectile users like Samus or Link, use it periodically so your opponent will think twice about using projectiles.

Final Smash: Landmaster

Type 1 KO Potential: 9 Rating: 9

Fox has one of the greatest Final Smashes in the game that can easily KO opponents multiple times. The controls are simple: Use the directional buttons to move, press down while on the ground to do a barrel roll, attack to fire a huge baster from the tank, and press the jump buttons to rise up. View the Basic Strategies section to learn how to get multiple KO's.

Basic Strategies

On any horizontal plane, use Fox's Blaster. A few consecutive bursts every now and then will eventually add up into a huge damage score. The key is not to be too far away, because the blaster does less damage the further away it is, but not to get too close for obvious reasons.

As stated before, use the reflector on any character that uses projectiles, and use it often on heavy projectile users. Try to use it in short sudden bursts instead of long continious holds.

When an opponent starts to get close to you, use the Fox Illusion to quickly strike them, but make sure you don't fall off the edge.

To score maximum KO's with the Land master, I use the three step attack.
Step 1: Execute the move near your opponents or in a crowd. This is to clear out opponents at high damage.
Step 2: Use the blaster and rolling to clear out the rest of your opponents.
Step 3: Once they die, move under the hovering platform they respawn on. Once they fall onto the tank, fly up into the air for a second KO.

Advanced Strategies

There are three main components to fox's advanced strategy. First off, abuse his throws as they are really great. Use the dash throw strategy at low damage, where you throw an opponent down, dash back to them, and grab and throw again.

Use Fire Fox as an alternative to Fox Illusion, just make sure you use it horizontally. If you catch your opponent in the inital start up of Fire Fox, you can deal additional damage and deal out the full effect.

There's a bit of a glitch with Fox's Reflector. When in the air, if you hold down ad rapiddly press the Special button, he continously reflects whlie falling slowly. Experts will make good use of this unique "slow fall".

Expert Strategies

As stated above, experts will take advantage of his slow fall. As stated below, juggling Fox really messes him up. However, when using the slow fall, Fox becomes impervious to juggling. The trick is to use the strategy every time you are up in the air, unless you are recovering.

You'll notice that the Fox Illusion goes a tad further when you are in the air. Do a short jump (lightly tap the jump button) and then use it. It only adds a little distance, but it can catch an opponent off-guard.

In a 1 on 1 match, as an alternative to a throw, run up to an opponent, do a jump or a short jump depending on how close you are, and use his down aerial attack or his side aerial attack.

Fox has a medium slide, so use it when about a character away from you opponent.

1 on 1

Use his Fire Fox attack whenever next to your opponent. Constantly use Blaster and use Fox Illusion when he closes in on you. Once he's built up damage, use a quick smash to finish him.

Free for All

Rely on his Reflector heavilly (unless there are no projectile users), as it easy to reflect something in a big commotion. Use Fire Fox when in a crowd, and use Blaster whenever not.

Against

Fighting against Fox can be tough since he can be a threat from both close and long range. The key is to get close to him and use attacks that knock him away. Once there, follow up or "juggle" him whenever you can.
