This Section of the site is devoted to the second game in the Smash Bros. series, Super Smash Bros. Melee! Here you may find tips and screenshots you would have a hard time finding somewhere else!
Super Smash Bros. Melee was released on August 25, 2002. Like Smash Bros. For the N64, this fighting game is different because of its damage system.
You start out at 0% and as you get hit, your % goes up. The higher the %, the farther you'll fly. If you fly too far out of the screen then you will die. There are other things that involve the damage system too. In SSBM you can charge up your moves. That way you hit harder inflicting more %. There are two new modes tha involve the Damage system. They are Super Sudden Death and Stamina. In Super Sudden Death, all players will start and respawn with 300% making you a lot easier to KO. In Stamina, all players start with 150 hp. Instead of your % going up, it will drop. Once your HP reaches 0 then your out of the game.
SSBM introduces 26 characters which is more than its previous game, Super Smash Bros. for the N64 (See Classic Section). Eleven of the 26 characters are unlockables. These unlockable characters include The unlockable veterans from the origonal Super Smash Bros. along with the new characters comes new series. Not just "Mario" and "Pokemon" but "Fire Emblem" and others!
In SSBM, there is no more "board the platforms". "Target Smash" did return, however, and along with normal battling comes a bunch of new categories to play in. Those categories include Tiny/Giant Melee, Camera Mode, Slow-mo Melee, Fast Melee, Super Sudden Death, Stamina, ect. Along with the awesome battles in timed or stock matches, Melee brought in a new game. It is called Coin Match. The players battle each other and knock coins out of the other for points. When an opponent is hit they do not loose points, however, but if they die, they will loose some points. The match is timed so try to gather them as fast as you can!
There can be up to Four players in SSBM. You can have a "free-for-all" match or a "Team Battle" Match. You can set a computer to a difficulty level. The levels range from 1-9 and 9 being the hardest. You can have a computer battle along side you or battle you.
Melee Has a bunch of new stages! The number of stages went from 9 to 29. Out of those 29 stages, 11 are unlockable. Included in the New stages are veteran stages from the N64! You Start out with these stages:
